Škoda Kylaq Crosses 50,000 Production Milestone in India

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a significant manufacturing milestone with the production of 50,000 units of the Škoda Kylaq within one year. The compact SUV is manufactured at the Group’s Chakan facility near Pune and plays a central role in the company’s localisation and scale-led growth strategy in India.

The Kylaq, SAVWIPL’s first sub‑4‑metre SUV, has also been a key contributor to the Group’s 36 per cent year-on-year growth in 2025, underlining its importance in strengthening the brand’s position in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.

Made-in-India Focus at the Chakan Plant

Manufactured with a strong emphasis on local sourcing, the Kylaq reflects Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s alignment with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. To support the model’s growing demand, SAVWIPL has increased production capacity at the Chakan plant by 30 per cent, while simultaneously deepening engagement with domestic suppliers to achieve higher localisation levels.

This focus on scale, cost competitiveness, and long-term supplier partnerships forms a key part of the Group’s broader India strategy as it looks to strengthen its manufacturing and engineering footprint in the country.

Leadership Remarks on the Milestone

The production milestone event was attended by Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Cabinet Minister of Heavy Industries and Minister of Steel, who congratulated the company on its achievement and reiterated the importance of locally manufactured vehicles in strengthening India’s automotive ecosystem.

Commenting on the milestone, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, said that reaching 50,000 units highlights the trust customers have placed in the Kylaq. He added that the SUV’s success validates the Group’s approach of developing vehicles on the MQB‑A0‑IN platform, engineered in India for both domestic and global markets.

Built on Local Engineering and Talent

For SAVWIPL, the Kylaq’s production milestone is also a reflection of over 25 years of investment in local talent, engineering capability, and manufacturing excellence in India. As the Group continues to expand its product portfolio and scale up output across its Indian facilities, localisation remains a central pillar of its long-term strategy.

With demand for compact SUVs continuing to grow, the Kylaq’s early production success positions it as a critical model in Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s plans to strengthen its presence in the mass-premium segment while reinforcing India’s role as a global manufacturing hub.
